Andrea Couvert
“Co-design for communities”
Andrea is an optimist who stubbornly thinks that one must have a reason, a purpose, and a strategy to change the world.
Andrea is a web and graphic designer originally from Turin (Italy), living in Cape Town since 2003, and from 2017 I became a South African citizen.
He is a passionate organizer of co-design and participatory design projects. He enjoys embracing challenges and seeing how good design can improve people’s lives.
Currently, Andrea coordinates the co-design activities and the stakeholder's involvement in a participatory research study to improve the collection of absorbent hygiene product (AHP) waste in Samora Machel in Philippi, Cape Town. The research study is managed by GreenEdge Communication in collaboration with the University of the Western Cape.
Andrea coordinates the Cape Town Commoners project, in which one of the main activities is the support for the co-design project of the residents of Cissie Gool House, an old public hospital in Woodstock, which is now home for people who have been evicted or would have been displaced by unaffordable rent and property prices.
He is involved in community-driven civic participation projects in various civics associations and NPO including Friends of Thandolwethu, Woodstock Residents Association, and the Civic Actions for Public Participation Network.
